Dearly Devoted Dexter
I was first attracted to the Dexter book series through its Showtime television series by the same name. Portraying a dark storyline about an anti-hero serial killer set on a richly illustrated Miami backdrop, the Showtime series was a masterpiece of cinematography with boldly splashed colors and suggestively subversive lighting.
The casting was a delight in itself; Michael Hall balanced the school boyish charm and the serial killer alter ego surprisingly well, causing shivers in viewers as they realize that they were close to empathizing with his need to kill just as he goes about using chain saws into his victims. It’s no doubt that Hall went on to be nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television series! The series as a whole won an Emmy for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing (Drama).

Whilst chilling out at 1-Utama today, I dropped by MPH and found the second Dexter novel (Dearly Devoted Dexter) and promptly bought it. Looks like MPH is ramping up its book selection from RM 10 trashy romance novels and having something of quality after all
Although they surely do charge a bomb for it!
Dearly Devoted Dexter follows up on the first novel, Darkly Dreaming Dexter. There are some differences between the novels and the serials, some of them being major plot points that divert substantially from the novel and others being numerous minor plot points that add jazz to the TV series.
It turns out that the next season of Dexter, due end of September 2007, has already had its first two episodes leaked on the Internet! In any case, it looks like October is going to be a great month. Season 2 of Dexter, Season 4 of House and the next book in the Dexter series is coming out too (Dexter in the Dark)! Let’s hope MPH or Kinokuniya carry it ![]()
