Cambodia, Day 3
Cambodia Day 3 was pretty fun. I was off to the Killing Fields in the morning. Killing Fields were less traumatic compared to Tuol Sleng. Prisoners would be brought from Tuol Sleng to the Killing Fields for the purposes of decimation. From what I saw, the Khmer Rouge regime was on its way to perfect the art of mass killings. Nonetheless, the fact that the US was intentionally or otherwise behind one of the most horrifying mass murder in history.
I always felt strongly that the United Nations should have a enforcement agency, instead of just a peacekeeping force. The genocide happening in Rwanda is such a case in point. Or even Iraq, with a million Iraqis dead thanks to the misguided presidency of George Bush (the second). It’s horrendous how the human race can just not give a damn. The good news is that Cambodia is healing, slowly and steadily. The trial of the perpetrators is ongoing, and with some time, the people of Cambodia can put this ugly episode behind them and focus on rebuilding their nation.
Evening beckoned and we found ourselves at the famous Same Same backpackers hostel. Some pool, beers and Indian food with Nabil, Kristin and Ashley. We were Happy (note the capital H).
