Cambodia, Day 5
Day 5 started with waking up way too early. I set my alarm for 8.30am, forgetting that Malaysia is one hour ahead of Cambodia. So there I was, up and ready, wondering why everybody else was still asleep. Grr. Anyways, Ashley, Kristin and yours truly were off to the local market. Did some shopping, t-shirts and a copy of Monty Python: Flying Circus
Happy to lay my hands on that, I must say. A very enterprising Cambodian woman attempted to sell me keychains for USD12. These were the very same keychains I bought for USD2 in Malaysia! Needless to say, I passed on the offer.
There was a good lunch, and afternoon was supposed to be spent going off to orphanage. But lack of time meant that I had to fly off to the airport. Kristin and Ashley dropped me off. Handed them rest of my keychains to be given to the orphans. A couple hugs later, I was alone at the airport.
Flight back was uneventful, except for a passenger getting into a fight with the flight stewardess. Apparently, she was being really bitchy. Too tired to watch the sandiwara, I just decided to sleep.
Got up today feeling depression. You know, post-holiday-depression. I had such a fantastic time in Cambodia. Meeting the Cambodia people, understanding their culture and the horror of their past, couchsurfing with Kristin and Ashley, listening to Nabil’s stories, bonding with the Cambodian tuk-tuk drivers, getting Happy (note the capital H).
I will be back in Cambodia at some point in my life. It’s time to pass on my mad computer skillz to the kids. It’s a cycle, you see. I was taught to use the computer when I was kid by various kind teachers who did it free of charge. Now it’s time to pass on the torch of knowledge and help the Cambodians build a better life for themselves.
